So tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and what do I have planned? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! My husband struck gold when he found out that I am not a fan of Valentine’s Day. And no I am not a bitter person or no it’s not that my husband doesn’t do romantic things, it’s just why are we going to spend and give in to one day where we splurge our money and buy gifts when you can literally do that any other day and probably spend a fraction of the price.
To me, I would rather have that element of “surprise” on a random day when you least expect it. When Valentine’s Day comes around, there is no surprise really. You know something sweet and romantic is going to come at some point during the day.
Another thing that drives me nuts is that I feel Valentine’s Day tends to be a little too much pressure on men. Who decided that Valentine’s Day was a day to splurge on women? If it’s a day of love, shouldn’t it work both ways? I just really feel like it’s a day to spend unnecessary money. If you want to do something special for your significant other, than doing it literally on any other day will hold the same meaning and feelings.
Now with all that being said, I am not against love and celebrating love. We teach our kids to love and be kind but they also understand that you show love every single day. I actually picked up my daughter from school today and she said to me, “Mommy, I don’t want any gifts for Valentine’s Day.” If you know my girl, she will never pass on an opportunity to receive a gift. I asked her why and she said, “I don’t need to do Valentine’s Day.” Nothing more, nothing less.
Our Valentine’s Day cards that we made however, she is so excited to hand those out to her classmates at school because that’s just the type of person she is. She is growing into this beautiful girl with an amazing heart. My husband and I know, that everyday the love we show each other and our kids, allow our kids to know that you show the same amount of love everyday rather than choosing to go all out on one random day of the year.
This is just my opinion everyone! If you love doing the whole shebang on Valentine’s Day than go for it! We just choose to show our love everyday by doing random little things for each other and if we ever feel like going all out to spoil each other we will do it whenever we want! That’s all I’ve got to say for today. Don’t forget to like and follow for more mommy rants!
